Illustrated portrait of Ed Mehrer

UX + Product Designer

I'm Ed Mehrer.

I've been a UX and product designer for 25 years, and I still love the work.

I've been on many rungs of the leadership ladder, but it’s the interesting work I’m drawn to rather than fancy titles.

I do my best work on blank-slate problems, with clients who are open to where the research leads. The best wow is when a user doesn't notice the design at all. They just think, “Oh, that was easy.”

Research-led

Let the research dictate the direction. The best solutions emerge from understanding, not assumptions.

Invisible design

The best interface is the one users don't notice. Friction-free experiences that just work.

Blank slate focus

25 years of solving problems from scratch. Starting with nothing often leads to something better.

Selected Work

A wellness app that started with a wrong guess

A non-profit serving cancer survivors wanted to translate a home-delivery program into an app. We thought we knew what would bring people back. Three weeks of research told us we were wrong — and showed us what to build instead.

When better UX isn’t the whole answer

We redesigned a telecom’s wireless buyflow to cut decision overload. Research proved the flow worked. But it also revealed the real barrier was somewhere else.
